The Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Al-Siddiq Al-Kabir and US Special Envoy, Richard Norland agreed during a meeting on Friday that “an effective response to the needs of Derna and other affected communities will require a unified, transparent and experience-based approach in cooperation with international institutions, including the World Bank and the United Nations.”
According to the US Embassy, Al-Kabir and Norland, in the presence of Chargé d'Affaires at the US Embassy Jeremy Berndt, discussed the importance of the central bank's technocratic integrity and independence in managing Libya's financial resources, including the crucial issue of post-flood reconstruction.
