Doctors Without Borders has said that more than 100 people drowned at sea after their boats were destroyed in a timeframe of less than 72 hours off the Libyan coast, adding that this was as a direct result of policies of European countries.
The organization indicated that six rescue ships, belonging to non-governmental organizations, continue to be banned by the Italian and European authorities, rendering them incapable of resuming life-saving operations under the cover of ‘concerns about the safety of navigation’, according to a statement.
It confirmed that practically 700 people have lost their lives across the Mediterranean this year alone.
