The European Union delegation to Libya has called on Libyan leaders to “work together and live up to their historical responsibility by adopting a spirit of consensus to reach a lasting political solution that paves the way for a unified government leading to elections in the country.”

In a joint statement on Friday, regarding the resignation of UN envoy Abdoulaye Bathily, the European Union reaffirmed “EU member states’ support for the mediation efforts made by the UN mission in Libya during this particularly difficult stage.”

The EU Delegation encouraged whom it described as institutional actors to commit to a constructive peace process that would enable it to renew its mandate.
