A group of 367 irregular migrants have been picked up by the search and rescue ship "Geo Barents," operated by Doctors Without Borders, and disembarked at the Italian Palermo Port after setting off from the Libyan shores.
In a separate operation, the Greek authorities rescued 20 migrants, while seven others are still missing. The migrants, who were attempting to reach the European shores on board their wooden and rubber boats, included minors.
According to Italian Ministry of Interior statistics, more than 53 thousand migrants have arrived at Italian ports until last Thursday, which is double the number of migrants who arrived in Italy in 2020.
