Sabratha vessel of Tripoli Coast Guard managed to rescue 40 illegal immigrants from the Mediterranean while on their way to Europe.

The rescue operation took place on Saturday north of the city of Zuwara, the Navy Information Office said.

The office added that the migrants were found on board a rubber boat, pointing out that among them were 31 men, 8 women, and a child.

The office explained that the migrants were of different nationalities, including 15 men, 3 women and one child from Morocco, in addition to 4 men from Egypt, 11 men, 5 women from Nigeria, and a Syrian.

The migrants were provided with humanitarian and medical assistance before being transferred to Tajoura Immigration Centre.
