The Tripoli Security Directorate has reported that reckless driving and failure to adhere to traffic rules and speed limits are the primary causes of road accidents in the city, as it commemorated World Traffic Day this Saturday.
In a Facebook post, the Directorate also highlighted other reasons for accidents, including improper overtaking, irregular turning and stopping, failure to maintain a safe distance between vehicles, and using mobile phones while driving.
The Directorate reminded that road accidents are the second leading cause of death globally, claiming over one and a half million lives annually, with ages ranging from 5 to 30 years according to a United Nations report published in 2023.
It's worth noting that World Traffic Day celebrations coincided with the Unified Arab Traffic Week, during which brochures and gifts were distributed to motor vehicle drivers, reminding them of the importance of adhering to traffic rules and etiquette.
