The former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said that the absence of the world's top leaders for Palermo Conference represents an outright failure of Italian foreign policy.

"The world's top leaders did not accept Italy's invitation to attend the conference, which confirms that the credibility of Italy's foreign policy is on the line," Renzi told Italian news outlets Monday.

The Palermo conference on Libya officially began Monday with two meetings to discuss the security and economic aspects in Libya.
