The spokesman for the Local Council of Sirte, Mohammed Al-Amil, confirmed that Sirte Airport had been subjected to vandalism and robbery.

Al-Amil added that the thieves stole copper cables and sets of doors and windows. Al-Amil also stated that this is not the first time that damage was done to the airport since its closing down.

The Local Council of Sirte had begun maintenance work on the airport, which saw it function in 2014, but renewed clashes during the war to liberate the city from ISIS prevented the completion of the work.
