The South African government is due to meet the Libyan ambassador to negotiate the release of two members of the Marumo Gallants football team after their arrest following a match with Libya's Al-Akhdar in Benghazi about ten days ago.

Maromo Gallants Club issued a statement confirming the detention of two of its backroom staff at a hotel in Libya after their match with Al-Akhdar in the group stage of the Confederation Cup competition.

The team members, including a physiotherapist and a media professional, were arrested on the grounds of non-payment of financial obligations.

The club confirmed the safety of its staff, indicating that they are awaiting a solution to the problem.
