The UN envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, said in a message to Libyans on the occasion of the month of Ramadan that all Libyan political parties should engage in dialogue and be united, adding that all Libyans hope that political leaders agree on a national solution to avoid more division and instability.

Bathily said the only solution for the Libyan situation is holding elections that are free and fair to all parties by the end of this year so that legitimacy can be bestowed again on institutions and the country can recover.

"I reiterate the Secretary-General of the United Nations' message that stressed the need to promote dialogue, unity and peace. This is a message that I call on all parties in Libya to reflect on, hoping that they will be inspired by the holy month, the values of tolerance and detachment from self-consideration, in addition to making concessions and meeting on one word for the sake of Libya and its people. Libyan women and men have the right to enjoy peace, tranquility and prosperity in a stable and secure country.” Bathily added.
