The United States recognizes that an effective reconciliation process is a crucial ingredient in allowing Libya to achieve the stability and prosperity that Libyans deserve," US Special Envoy/Ambassador to Libya Richard Norland said on Wednesday.

The US official praised in a tweet all those who participated in the first preparatory meeting for the National Reconciliation Conference, which was held in Congo last Thursday.

He expressed hope for the meeting to lay the ground for a successful National Conference that allows Libyans to discuss and resolve the important issues, which he described as "crucial to reaching Libya's great potential and promoting stability in the wider region."

Congo-Brazzaville hosted on 20-21 July, the Preparatory Committee for the Libyan Reconciliation Conference, with the participation of Congo's President, Chairman of the High-level African Commission on Libya, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and Vice President of Mohammed Menfi, Head of the Presidential Council, besides representatives of various Libyan parties and the Arab League.
