The White House announced on Monday the nomination of Jennifer Gavito as the new US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Libya.
Gavito recently served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iraq and Iran. She has also worked as Minister Counselor for Political Affairs at the US Embassy in London and previously held the position of US Consul General in Munich.
The US diplomat is an expert in Middle Eastern affairs, having served as Deputy Consul at the US Consulate in Dubai, Director for Syria and Lebanon at the National Security Council in the White House, Deputy Director of the Office of Maghreb Affairs in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs at the State Department and Officer in Charge of Libya, and Chief of the Economic and Commercial Section at the US Embassy in Beirut.
Additionally, Gavito has held the position of Chief of the Political Section at the US General Consulate in Jerusalem and served as a Foreign Policy Advisor to the Director of Strategy and Policy at the United States Africa Command.
