Vice President of the Presidential Council Musa al-Koni has met with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss methods for reactivating strategic and economic cooperation between the two nations, as well as the return of Chinese firms to Libya.

The two parties met on the sidelines of the Emerging Economies Summit (BRICS) that Johannesburg hosted from August 22 to 24.

Al-Koni highlighted the need to lift force majeure imposed on Chinese companies in Libya in order for them to complete the projects that have been blocked since 2011.

He also called for broadening the investment opportunities for Chinese firms, emphasizing Libya's need for Chinese expertise in construction projects.

For his part, the Chinese President expressed his desire to deepen Chinese-Libyan relations along strategic and economic dimensions that lead to the path of cooperation.

President Xi Jinping welcomed cooperation with Libya and expressed support for the political process and for building the state.

He also pledged to direct the Chinese companies to return to Libya and contribute to the reconstruction process in the country, emphasizing his country's readiness to deepen mutual political trust with Libya and expand economic cooperation between the two sides.
