The United States, Britain, France, Italy, and Germany have voiced support for the UN envoy to Libya in his call for a unified Libyan mechanism to deliver relief and respond to the reconstruction needs in the wake of the flood disaster.

The heads of mission of the five countries to Libya issued a statement in this regard on Tuesday.

In their statement, the group affirmed their support for establishing a unified Libyan national mechanism, in coordination with local, national, and international partners.

The mechanism intends to ensure transparent and accountable relief delivery and respond to the reconstruction needs in the wake of the flood disaster.

The UN Envoy Abdoulaye Bathily had expressed concerns about unilateral and conflicting local initiatives to reconstruct flood-stricken cities like Derna and stressed the need for a unified national mechanism to move forward with reconstruction efforts.
