The High Council of State on Tuesday condemned the arrest of its member, Safwan Mohammed Al-Masouri, by a security force in Derna.
In a brief statement, the Council held the security entity—which it did not mention—accountable for Al-Masouri's safety and called for his immediate release.
The HCS emphasized that the entity has disregarded the legislative immunity of Al-Masouri, which he "derived from the effective laws of the state."
"This incident comes at a time when the Council is working to overcome the state of political division and ward off its disastrous consequences," the HCS stated.
It also warned that the incident could derail efforts towards rapprochement with its partner, the House of Representatives, aimed at finding a solution to the political crisis in the country.
