The Council of Ministers of the Government of National Unity (GNU) held its first regular meeting for the current year on Wednesday, said the GNU Spokesman, Mohamed Hammouda.

In a press conference on Wednesday, the GNU spokesman said that Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah reviewed during the meeting the challenges that lie ahead, confirming that the problems are indeed immense and require redoubled efforts in light of the government's short-term and the high popular expectations of delivering results.

One of the most important challenges at this stage is the coronavirus pandemic and the public services, foremost of which is electricity, the GNU spokesman explained.

He also confirmed the GNU had received all offices from the previous authorities in the east and west regions and that all remains to be done are some financial formalities between the relevant committees.

He also noted that the two vice-presidents will carry out their functions from the Prime Minister’s Office in the southern and eastern regions.

Hammouda confirmed that the wife and children allowance was included in the 2021 budget handed over to Parliament, noting that the cabinet had also discussed raising wages and improving living conditions before the month of Ramadan.

On the military side, The GNU spokesman said the military committee's work is progressing well and moving towards its goal at steady steps, stressing that the unification of the military institution is a basic requirement.

"We are waiting for the opening of the coastal road and the departure of all mercenaries from Libya, which is one of the conditions for total sovereignty," Hammouda added.
