UNSMIL said Thursday that the Acting UN envoy for Libya Stephanie Williams met with the Head of the High Council of State Khalid Al-Mishri and accompanying delegation in Geneva and discussed the current situation in Libya as well as dialogue tracks emanating from the Berlin Conference.

UNSMIL added in a statement that the meeting focused on ways to resume the political track as soon as possible in order to avoid potential deterioration in the military situation. In addition, the two parties discussed the issue of corruption and its devastating impact.

In the meantime, Al-Mishri said he had agreed to meet the Speaker of the pro-Haftar Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), in Morocco.

He said, according to Moroccan news channel Medi1 TV, that the meeting is part of Rabat’s efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis, adding that there had been efforts exerted by Morocco under the supervision of King Mohammed VI to advance diplomatic efforts to solve the Libyan crisis.

Al-Mishri added that he visited Morocco in last July for the same issue, coinciding with the presence of Saleh in the kingdom.

“We said we are ready to meet with him in public, but on the condition of international assurances and the presence of our Moroccan brothers.” Al-Mishri added, saying he was ready to meet all parties to the Libyan conflict on the same conditions.
