Arab League

The Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Huweij, was assigned to head the Libyan delegation that participated in the meeting of the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers in its 160th session at the League’s headquarters in Cairo on Wednesday. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita and the current President of the League Council.

Al-Huweij stressed the Libyan position regarding the Palestinian cause through its firm stances in support of the Palestinian people. He also noted the necessity of improving the performance of the Arab League and developing it in a way that would enable it to take on a role that could keep pace with the changes and challenges that the world had been going through. He also stressed that Libya "accepts partnership and does not accept guardianship."

He reiterated the need for the Arab League to have a fundamental role in stabilizing Libya and to work with it to reach transparent and fair parliamentary and presidential elections in accordance with the political agreement.

The meeting resulted in a number of decisions related to the process of joint Arab action and others related to developments in a number of Arab countries, in addition to several issues related to social, economic, legal and financial affairs.

The Libyan Foreign Minister Najla Al-Mangoush was suspended from work and referred for investigation on the heels of a meeting she had with her Israeli counterpart, Eli Cohen, last August.
