The National Salvation Government (NSG) has called for calm and said it’s extremely disturbed by the recent military escalation in the south of Libya amid rising tensions between Dignity Operation forces and the Third Force.

“Winding down the tensions, returning to dialogue and putting the interests of the country first should be the priority,” Khalifa Al-Ghwel-led NSG said in a statement on Sunday.

Tensions between Dignity Operation forces and the Third Force have worsened following Thursday attack on Brak Al-Shati Airbase which left more than 60 Dignity Operation militants dead. The operation retaliated by intense airstrikes on Al-Jufra Airbase in central Libya leaving a number of people dead.

The NSG statement blamed the UN-installed Presidential Council for the deteriorating situations in the country.

“The so-called Presidential Council is responsible for the current crises, disasters and confusion on the political scene. They have used foreign leverage against their own country’s constitutional legitimacy.” The statement read.

It called on the Libyan people to stand together to end the farce of the Skhirat agreement and the result of it which is leading to full collapse and chaos.
