UNSMIL said it is closely following with concern reports about the mobilization of forces and movement of large convoys of armed groups that have increased tensions in and around Tripoli, stressing the importance of preserving calm and stability in the country and calling n all parties to refrain from any action that could lead to armed clashes and urges them to cooperate with the Special Adviser of the UN Secretary-General on Libya in her ongoing good offices' efforts to find a negotiated way out of the current political stalemate.

UN Adviser Williams urge restraint and the need to abstain from provocative actions, in word and deed, including the mobilization of forces, renewing her offer to utilize the good offices of the United Nations to mediate and assist Libyans in finding a consensual way forward.

The US ambassador in Libya, Richard Norland, said in a post by the US embassy backing UNSMIL’s call that Washington fully supports UNSMIL‘s message and urges both sides to seize the opportunity to pursue a political solution rather than risk escalation.

Armed convoys loyal to Prime Minister-designate Fathi Bashagha positioned themselves in some areas in Misrata before heading to Tripoli in an attempt to enter the capital peacefully.
