The Government of National Unity’s State Minister for Economic Affairs, Salama Al-Ghwail, has said that the political and institutional divisions taking place in Libya directly affect the signed international agreements, rendering them ineffective, especially in light of the varied areas of control.

Al-Ghwail described all the signed agreements as mere ‘ashes in the eyes’ as he put it, and that they cannot be activated in the absence of a genuine project.

In a statement to Sputnik, Al-Ghwail noted that the current political bodies are ‘lame’ and no one team can fully represent Libya.

Al-Ghwail stressed that Libya is not isolated from the international community and therefore, from the economic impact due to the current crisis.

However, Libya could have benefited from the rise in energy prices; but the halt in oil production negatively affected the internal situation and the global production system, he added.

He also referred to what he described as ‘some stumbling blocks’ regarding development, security, stability and division, which negatively affected the overall situation in the country.
