Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has affirmed that the disaster in Libya is an alarm bell that brings the Libyans together and unites their ranks to create the necessary conditions for holding elections as soon as possible.

In his speech on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations Assembly, Aboul Gheit stressed the necessity of providing international support in all its forms to Libya to confront the effects of the devastating floods that struck the east of the country.

On Saturday, the Supreme Emergency and Response Committee of the parallel government confirmed that the number of the documented death toll due to torrents and floods in the eastern region had risen to 3,845 people, in addition to thousands of injured and missing people.
