The Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abol Gheit, stressed that all Libya stakeholders should work seriously toward paving the way and finding a suitable security, political and legal environment for holding elections as soon as possible to meet the aspirations of Libyan voters.

Aboul Gheit voiced concern over the status quo in Libya, which could lead to going back to a tough place similar to the pre-signing of ceasefire in 2020, adding that the situation now shows that Libya needs elections to determine the legitimacy of its state institutions and end the transitional periods that have gone too long to the extents that they are now ineffective.

He also said Libyans should work on building a political process that takes the country to stability, adding that the Arab League is in support of any serious Libyan efforts that believe in consensus regarding a clear political roadmap with a specific timeline.
