The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Abdoulaye Bathily, has discussed in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, the current situation in Libya and the challenges facing the restoration of the electoral process.

“We both agreed that the international community must play a crucial role in helping Libyan people achieve their goal of having inclusive parliamentary and presidential elections in 2023”, Bathily tweeted.

The two parties stressed the importance of coordinating international efforts aimed at overcoming the protracted conflict with the leadership role of the United Nations, within the framework of a comprehensive process involving the participation of all the main political forces in the country, according to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
