The UN Special Representative/ Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Abdoulaye Bathily, held a meeting with ambassadors of several member states in the Joint Presidency of the Security Working Group, emanating from the International Follow-up Committee on the Berlin Process.

According to the UNSMIL, the meeting grouped ambassadors of France, Italy, Turkey, and the UK, in addition to the African Union.

In a Facebook statement Thursday, the mission said discussions focused on ways to intensify and coordinate international community efforts to support the security track and contribute to achieving peace and security in Libya.

Through his X account, Bathily said the group agreed on the necessity of maintaining momentum in preserving the gains achieved so far and holding a meeting for the Security Working Group within Libya as soon as possible.

The Security Working Group, stemming from the International Follow-up Committee on the Berlin Process, held two meetings in Tripoli and Benghazi during the year 2024, attended by ambassadors and envoys of member states in the Joint Presidency of the Group, as well as military and security leaders and armed groups from eastern and western Libya.
