US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken described his talks with the UN Envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, in New York, on Saturday as fruitful.

"Productive discussion with Bathily_UNSMIL at the UN. I commended the work of UNSMI Libya to promote consensus among Libyans to enable elections in 2023, " Blinken wrote on Twitter Saturday.

He reaffirmed Washington's continued support for the Libyan people in their demand to choose their leaders.

For his part, Bathily said he agreed with the US Secretary of State on the need for the international community to support an UN-facilitated Libyan-owned solution towards elections in 2023 as a way of responding to the Libyans’ aspiration for legitimate institutions.
