Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi Di Maio, said that his country’s exports to Libya were previously estimated at 15 billion euros, however, they have fallen sharply to two billion euros during the current period, due to the crisis which Libya has witnessed in the past ten years.
However, Di Maio added, “We are capable of restoring this margin”, noting the relevance of Libya’s strategic location and its ability to attract investments.
In the same context, the Italian Minister confirmed his country’s work, described as ‘a 360-degree turn’, to resume commercial activity with Libya, noting that this would not have been possible without the two years of Italian work and support for the peace process, adding that the Libyan government wishes to see more Italian presence in Libya.
