Libya’s national basketball team clinched a dramatic 82-80 victory over Cape Verde on Sunday, February 23, in a nail-biting encounter that remained fiercely contested until the final buzzer.

With this hard-fought win, the Mediterranean Knights have officially booked their place in the 2025 FIBA AfroBasket finals in Angola, finishing at the top of Group B. The qualification marks a historic moment for Libya, making their fifth appearance in the tournament and their first in 16 years.

Libya joins a strong lineup of teams in the finals, including Egypt, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, South Sudan, Madagascar, Mali, Guinea, Rwanda, Uganda, Nigeria, and Cape Verde.

The 16-team tournament is set to take place from August 12 to 24 in Angola, where Africa’s top basketball nations will compete for continental glory.
