A statement issued by the Libyan embassy in Washington has confirmed the end of the term of service of Ambassador Wafaa Bugaighis, with Khalid Al-Daif being appointed as acting Charge d’Affairs, until a new ambassador is duly selected.

The statement clarified that in sincerity Al-Daif holds the rank of Minister Plenipotentiary, however he will assume the position of Acting Charge d’Affairs, merely until an ambassador is appointed.

Bugaighis has held her position as Charge d’Affairs of the Libyan embassy since December 2014, prior to her credentials being accepted as ambassador of Libya, to the former President Donald Trump, in December 2017.

She has been referred to early retirement after refusing to hand over office.
