The Libyan Coast Guard rescued 57 illegal immigrants 60 miles off the city of Zuwara on Sunday, the Information Office of the Libyan Navy confirmed.

The Libyan Navy clarified in a statement that the rescue operation took place near Al-Bouri offshore field, about 120 km north of the Libyan coast, clarifying that most of those rescued were of Nigerian nationality.

It further explained that the migrants were brought to the coast guard point at the Zawiya refinery port late on Sunday.

The migrants were provided with humanitarian and medical aid before being transferred to the Illegal Immigration Control Center of Al-Nasser in Zawiya.
