The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and the French Ambassador to Moscow, Pierre Levy, discussed on Friday cooperation within the Security Council on issues of common concern, including the situation in Libya and Mali.

According to Russia's Foreign Ministry, the two sides discussed Security Council reforms, regional conflicts, and global food security.

Last April, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov lambasted the UN for its ineffective decisions.

Russia's top diplomat said that France has repeatedly called for holding conferences on Libya but with no progress on the ground.
