Locals have managed to extinguish a fire in the Sha'afiyeen Reserve, west of Msallata, the Reserve said in a Facebook statement on Friday.
According to the statement, the fire was caused by an "ignition of fire" earlier in the day, praising the prompt response of "the people, youth, and security men" who rushed to the rescue amid the lack of resources for such emergencies.
The Sha'afiyeen Natural Reserve, about one hundred km east of Tripoli, faces various threats due to the consequences of climate change and human activities.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) included the Sha'afiyeen Reserve in its network of biosphere reserves in September 2021.
