The Awjila Heritage Association has announced the completion of restoration work on the ancient mosque in Awjila, which is one of the oldest mosques in North Africa.
The association explained in a post on its Facebook page that the restoration process came with the support of the American Institute for Foreign Study.
The ancient Awjila Mosque, or as the people of the city call it, “The Great Mosque,” is considered one of the oldest mosques in Libya and North Africa. It was built after the Islamic conquest of North Africa in the year 666.
