The participants of the International Conference on Migration and Development have agreed to provide the necessary funding for the development of countries from which migrants come from or transit.

The final statement of the conference, which was held under the auspices of the Italian government in the capital, Rome, stressed the need to clamp down on human smuggling and improve cooperation between European and African countries in areas such as renewable energy.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said, "A donors' conference on illegal migration will be held soon," noting that illegal migration towards Europe is run by human trafficking gangs that take advantage of the migrants' conditions, portraying them as a journey to Europe as a journey of hope.
