The Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Georgette Gagnon has stated that more than 156,000 people in the flood-affected areas have humanitarian assistance from the UN and partners.

“In Derna, we saw progress on removal of rubble and restoration of basic services since my last visit. Still so much destruction and urgent need for reconstruction. The UN remains on the ground supporting people with humanitarian assistance, early recovery, and rebuilding”, Gagnon confirmed through her X platform page.

Gagnon added that during her fourth visit to Derna and eastern region, she held discussions with the city’s Mental Health Support Committee on efforts to provide psychosocial support to flood survivors and ways the UN can further assist in addressing this critical need of so many affected people.
