The Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Libya, Georgette Gagnon, called for collective engagement in the reconstruction process in Derna.

On her X account, Gagnon reaffirmed her commitment to supporting a national platform that coordinates comprehensive recovery efforts, prioritizing support for those affected by Storm Daniel in Derna.

During her sixth visit to Derna since the flood disaster, Gagnon said she observed the efforts of citizens and the progress and resilience in rebuilding their community with support from local authorities, international partners, and the UN.

The UN official also visited a cemetery where victims lost to the flood were buried. She further praised the efforts of the authorities to confirm identities through DNA testing of the missing and their families.
