The Special Envoy of the United Nations Refugee Agency for the Mediterranean, Vincent Cochetel, has expressed his deep concerns regarding the likely arrival of displaced persons from the Ethiopian Tigray region into Libya, and the possibility of their being trafficked there.

Cochetel reiterated the need to take serious action to meet their needs and prevent their moving towards Libya, reconfirming the UNHCR’s readiness to resume the delivery of aid to the displaced from Tigray, particularly after the passage of a number of refugees fleeing to Sudan.

Since the beginning of the conflict in the region, in excess of six thousand Ethiopians arrived in Sudan in order to escape the fighting, according to Sudanese officials.
