On Thursday July 1, Air Malta operated its first flight to Libya in almost seven years, carrying an official Maltese delegation, led by the Finance Minister, Clyde Caruana, along with Air Malta’s CEO, David J. Cormy.

The company said in a statement on Friday, July 2, that the delegation, which also included specialists in the field of aviation, discussed the issue of security during the visit with its Libyan counterparts, along with the resumption of regular flight services between both countries.

Caruana said: “Seeing Air Malta on Libyan soil following many years of absence is definitely a very positive sign and we continue to work together to achieve progress in aviation.”

He noted that both Malta and Libya have supported each other on many fronts of the years historically.

Cormy considered the resumption of flights between Malta and Tripoli an important step, saying: “Libya has always been a very important market for our airline and we are delighted to have had the opportunity to further discuss the country’s commercial operations with our Libyan counterparts.”
