Menfi-Bathily

The Head of the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Abdoulaye Bathily, on Tuesday, briefed President Muhammed Menfi of the Presidential Council (PC) on the results of his recent political consultations regarding a mechanism to break the current stalemate.

Bathily stressed the mission and the PC's strong partnership and described the Council as a neutral Libyan institution open to all parties.

He also reviewed with Menfi the latest arrangements with the international working group concerned with the security track before meeting in Benghazi this week.

Bathily reiterated his support for the PC in forming a national committee for managing public spending before convening its first meeting.

For his part, Menfi affirmed the Council's readiness to support any genuine initiative that would lead to elections as soon as possible.
