The Libyan Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, said the joint statement of the five Western governments and the statements of the UN as well as Advisor Stephanie Williams on the priority to hold elections are in line with his government’s plan to hold elections in June 2022.

Dbeibah added on Twitter on Friday that he had taken note of all those statements that contained a reference to the unclear and nontransparent sessions of the House of Representatives regarding the roadmap to elections, reiterating that his government’s plan and those statements “are at harmony”.

Th governments of France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America said in a joint statement on Friday that any disagreement on the future of the political process must be resolved without resorting to violence, warning that the five governments stand ready to hold to account those who threaten stability through violence or incitement, and urged Libyans to maintain their focus on holding credible, transparent, and inclusive presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible in order to fulfill the democratic aspirations of the Libyan people.

Speaking to UN Secretary General on the phone, Dbeibah reiterated support for his Advisor Stephanie Williams, discussing ways to move forward with backing up the Advisor’s efforts to ensure holding elections takes place as soon as possible.
