Egypt will host a high-level ministerial meeting on Saturday aimed at reviving political efforts to stabilise Libya, with the participation of foreign ministers from Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt, as well as the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
According to Egyptian sources, the meeting is part of a reactivated trilateral mechanism between Libya’s neighbouring countries, designed to coordinate positions and address shared security and political concerns.
Ministers expected to attend include Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Tunisia’s Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti, and Algeria’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf. UNSMIL will also be represented at the meeting.
The talks will focus on ways to relaunch an inclusive political track that leads to presidential and parliamentary elections, ensures Libya’s sovereignty, and facilitates the withdrawal of foreign fighters and mercenaries.
Sources say the ministers will also reaffirm their rejection of external interference in Libya’s internal affairs and call for unified international support for Libya’s national institutions under UN supervision.
