Militiamen from the Dignity Operation, led by Khalifa Haftar, stormed into Faraj Al-Barasi’s farm in Wasita area, northern Al-Baida, for the second time in three days, attempting to detain Al-Barasi, who used to be a senior leader under Haftar’s command.
Sources from the city reported seeing an armed convoy headed by Haftar’s sidekick in the area, Ahmed Gharour, entering the Wasita village late at night on Tuesday based on an agreement between them and Al-Brarasa tribesmen.
“The agreement said that Gharour’s convoy would hand over the 12 persons who were kidnapped from Al-Barasi’s farm last Monday.” The sources indicated, adding that the convoy was keen on breaking into the farm once again to arrest Faraj Al-Barasi.
They added that the convoy stormed into the farm and clashed with the people in there for over 30 minutes causing one death from Gharour’s side and some injuries from both sides, then it left after abducting four of the people in the farm.
“Faraj Al-Barasi was probably injured before he was secured out of the farm in Tuesday clashes, while two of his brothers were kidnapped by the convoy.” The sources remarked.
Al-Bayda city, which was the spark of the 17 February revolution in 2011 against long-time dictator Muamar Gaddafi, is going through hard times coupled with heightened security for fear that Al-Bayda residents would venture any protests against Haftar's Dignity Operation.
That fear led Al-Bayda municipality to cancel the celebrations of the sixth 17 February revolution’s anniversary on next Friday, saying it could be taken advantage of by anti-Dignity Operation persons.
