Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte arrived in Libyan capital of Tripoli on Sunday for talks with senior officials of the country.

Heading a senior government delegation, Conte was received by Chairman of Presidential Council Fayez Sarraj and his government officials including Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayala.

Both sides reviewed the two countries’ relations and ways of enhancing cooperation.

“The Chairman briefed Conte on the current political situations in Libya and the measures adopted by the GNA for the security and economic reforms,” the Media Office of Presidential Council reported, adding that Sarraj has expressed his government’s desire to promote cooperation with Italy in all fields.

 According to the Media Office, Conte expressed his happiness over the return of normal life to Tripoli, stressing that his government supports the democratic track and national reconciliation efforts in Libya.

The two officials also discussed ways of reactivating the Libyan-Italian friendship treaty and start preparing for the meetings of joint committees early next year.
