The Sirte Security Force of the Al-Bunyan Al-Marsous arrested the kidnapers and abusers of the Sudanese migrants in coordination with the Sirte Central Backup Force in Gadahiya area – some 130 km to the south of Sirte.
The force announced Wednesday in a statement that the arrested persons were five Libyan nationals and a Palestinian, adding that eight migrants were freed and sent to Ibn Sina hospital in Sirte for treatment.
The Sudanese migrants’ case made quite a fuzz in Libya and on the international level as social media circulated a video showing them being tortured and burnt with fire by the arrested persons, who were extorting the migrants for ransom money.
Sudanese Foreign Ministry summoned Tuesday the Libyan chargé d'affaires in Khartoum and told him of Sudan’s discomfort of the video, while the Libyan Foreign Ministry said last Monday that those crimes showed in the video were inhumane.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Human Rights in Libya (NCHRL) condemned the video and slapped as a heinous crime and inhumane abuse against some African migrants, lashing out on the organized crime networks and human traffickers saying they are responsible for those crimes in exchange of money.
