Derna Shura fighters launched early Wednesday a massive attack on ISIS militants in Fatayah mountains, the last stronghold of ISIS in the city.

Media sources in the city said ISIS militants retreated under the heavy fire of Shura fighters and many were killed.

Shura fighters advanced in the mountains and launched a combing operation to hunt down the escaped ISIS militants.

Senior Derna Shura commander Mohammed Dango declared that Fatayah region is now under full control. Spokesperson of the council Hafed Daba said the liberation would be officially announced later in the day.

Local residents went to the streets in celebration.
