Parliament Speaker Aqila Saleh has assigned 12 deputies to a committee tasked with reviewing the contentious articles in the draft constitution.

According to Saleh's decision, the deputies will carry out the amendments to the draft constitution and take the necessary measures to put the resolution into effect.

The work of the committee should meet the obligations in Article 12 of the constitutional declaration and take into account its provisions as received and the deadlines set for the completion of its tasks.

The decision reiterated that the House of Representatives should be kept fully informed of any modifications to Article 12 of the constitutional declaration, noting that the committee is not authorized to arrange any obligation outside its mission specified in Article 2 of this resolution.

It is noteworthy that Aqila Saleh took the decision individually, without referring to the HoR, as it had not held an official session since last February. In this respect, Saleh's decision is unlikely to enjoy the support of the High Council of State, which previously announced its disavowal of the 12th constitutional amendment and its rejection of all the Parliament's recent moves that led to the appointment of a parallel prime minister.
