A Spanish search and rescue team arrived in Tripoli on Wednesday morning to help with recovery efforts, two days after Storm Daniel devastated the northeastern parts of Libya, killing more than 5,000 people, according to the authorities in the east.

The Spanish crew, equipped with four trained tracking dogs, two advanced drones, and two sensors, swung into action immediately after their arrival.

In coordination with the Emergency Medicine and Support Centre, the team headed to Benghazi before travelling to Derna, the worst affected city.

Director of the Emergency Medicine and Support Center, Tripoli Branch, Muhammad Kaplan, said the Spanish team will also train local teams on rapid response, rescue and recovery operations, and dealing with advanced search equipment.

He added that the Centre will receive sensing and imaging equipment to help in the search and rescue efforts.
