UNSMIL: New round of LPDF talks next week
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) will host a new round of talks for the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), from 28 June to 1 July, aimed at clearing the way towards the upcoming elections, especially in relation to the constitutional basis.
The UNSMIL said in a statement that the advisory committee of the LPDF will meet for two-day talks in Tunisia on June 24 to help facilitate discussions of the forum's plenary session set to take place in Geneva.
Members of the advisory committee will develop practical mechanisms that would help advance discussions and build consensus, especially in the decision-making process, the UNSMIL explained.
In this context, the Head of UNSMIL renewed his call to all concerned parties, including members of the LPDF, the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, to respond to the aspirations of the Libyan people and to expedite the completion of the constitutional basis and the legal framework for the elections.
He stressed the UN's commitment to holding the elections on December 24, as stipulated in the road map approved by the LPDF, and as stated in United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2570.
