UNSMIL said the 5+5 Libyan Joint Military Commission is starting its meeting under the auspices of the United Nations in Geneva today - February 03.

The UNSMIL added that five senior officers appointed by the Government of National Accord (GNA) and five other senior officers appointed by Khalifa Haftar are participating in the talks.

According to the UNSMIL, the delegations in Geneva are moderated by the Head of the UNSMIL in Libya, Ghassan Salame.

The 5+5 Commission represents Salame's military track for the solution in Libya as per Berlin conclusions of January 19.

The UN envoy said in previous statements that the core of the 5+5 commission's tasks is to work on sending away foreign fighters from Libya as soon as possible

The Government of National Accord sent the names of its representatives two weeks ago, while Haftar gave Salame his agreement and the names of his delegation only two days ago in a meeting in Al-Rajma.

The Geneva meeting is the first of this kind after the end of military institution unity meetings in Cairo in October 2018.
