Libya's Salama Al-Madani has earned the first gold medal for Libya in the Mediterranean Karate Championship for women’s kumite over 61kg after beating her opponent at the finals.
The three-day competition, which kicked off on Friday at the Sports Hall of Radès in Tunisia, attracted 447 athletes from 19 countries, including 19 competitors from Libya.
In 2022, Al-Madani clinched gold in women's kumite over 54kg in the African Karate Championship held in South Africa, becoming the first Libyan female to hold gold in a continental championship.
Minister of Sports Abdul Shafee Al-Juwaifi congratulated Al-Madani for her achievement, considering it a success for Libyan sports.
Muhammad Khaled Al-Fitouri of Libya has also won bronze in men's kumite over 76kg.
